The Joint Committee on Human Rights takes evidence from Minister for Care and Mental Health, Gillian Keegan MP, in the final session of its inquiry into protecting human rights in care settings.

The session is an opportunity for the Joint Committee to question the care minister on a range of issues relating to human rights in care settings. This includes the use of Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation notices, poor use of treatment escalation plans, over-medication, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. Given the critical importance of individuals in care settings maintaining contact with loved ones, the session will examine how well visitation is supported, particularly in light of the blanket bans implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Joint Committee will also consider what more can be done to ensure that individuals are able to enforce their rights and improve training for carers to better serve the needs of their patients.
