GWR Chooses to Challenge for International Women’s Day
Great Western Railway (GWR) is celebrating International Women’s Day with a film featuring colleagues challenging themselves and others to forge a more equal world.

The film, using the official International Women’s Day theme of #ChooseToChallenge, features GWR staff from across all areas of the business declaring what they are doing to celebrate their colleagues’ achievements and empower themselves and others.

Viewers are invited to see what GWR colleagues do to ensure their workplace is an inclusive and supportive place to work in, encouraging more people to consider a career in the rail industry. The Executive Board also provide a cameo, giving the #ChooseToChallenge salute.

GWR HR Director Ruth Busby, who features in the film, said:

“International Women’s Day is very important to all of us at GWR and is the perfect opportunity to show our customers and colleagues how committed we are to ensuring that it remains an inclusive company for those who both work and travel with us. We challenge ourselves and each other daily to be the best we can be. It really is true that from challenge, comes change.

“The rail industry has come a long way in becoming more gender-equal, and we have a vast pool of talented people who make GWR a welcoming environment for women to join and develop their careers, whether it’s driving a train, working in social media, or any of the other exciting roles that we have to offer. There is something for everyone with us.”

The film has been posted across all of GWR’s social media platforms, with posts inviting followers to share how they are celebrating the big day.

GWR is operating a reduced timetable during the latest national lockdown and customers should follow Government guidelines, only travelling for work if essential or for other legally permitted reasons. Find out more at gwr.com/safety.

GWR has been providing rail services throughout the pandemic and has worked to ensure that these are as safe as possible. This includes increased cleaning regimes and the use of a virucidal spray; extra staff at key stations to offer help and guidance; and processes in place to help customers maintain a safe distance where possible, such as restricting the number of reservations available.
