The UK-funded Mitigation Action Facility (MAF) is helping livestock producers in Honduras access green finance and adopt more sustainable farming practices.
During a visit to the municipality of Choluteca, British Ambassador to Honduras Juliana Correa met farming families benefiting from the programme and learned how investment, technical assistance and innovation are supporting more productive, resilient and lower-emission livestock systems.
As part of the visit, 11 farming families received the first loans delivered through the project
in the region. The financing will support investments in low-carbon technologies, improved farm management and climate adaptation measures.The project is supported through MAF, an international climate finance programme backed by the UK and other partners. In Honduras, it aims to improve access to finance and technical support for livestock producers while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Ambassador Correa visited Finca La Bendición, where she saw first-hand how producers are implementing sustainable approaches that strengthen productivity, improve resilience to climate change and support the sustainable management of natural resources.

The project is implemented by CATIE in partnership with the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), the Secretariat of Natural Resources and Environment (SERNA), financial institutions and local organisations.
