Can you tell us about the I Can See You Voice Christmas Special?

It’s a really fun Christmas show! We’ve got Leona Lewis on the show which for me is the best thing ever because her voice is so powerful and she’s so lovely! I think of her at Christmas time because she released a Christmas song and her voice reminds me of Mariah Carey’s and Mariah sang All I Want For Christmas Is You. All the mystery singers are dressed up in Christmas themed outfits, so that’s lovely. Gabby Logan is also helping our contestant Dev and he’s a fan of hers, so that’s a great surprise. And because it’s Christmas... we all lip sync at the top of the show - me, Jimmy, Amanda and Alison!

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, that’s the number one song for me.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

You know when people say they are going abroad for Christmas to the beach, well I like the cold! I like cold, dark nights, sat in with family, turkey, telly on - lovely! That’s my favourite thing about it. Just spending time at home. There’s something nice that we’re all doing the same thing on that day, regardless of whether you’re having a turkey, having a curry, having a vegan option… whatever you’re having! We’re all at home, pretty much watching the same programmes on the telly and wishing each other ‘Merry Christmas’ and giving each other presents.

What’s the best or worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?

The most surprising present was I thought my mum was getting me a mini Hi-Fi one year and when I opened the box it was a foot spa. I have no idea to this day why she did that. So it wasn’t necessarily a bad present but I wasn’t expecting it!

Are there any films you watch every year?

I’m more of a TV person at Christmas. I love a Christmas TV special like The Royle Family or Only Fools and Horses, anything like that I love.

Can you tell us about the I Can See Your Voice Christmas special?

If you like I Can See Your Voice and you like tinsel, you will love our Christmas special.

What’s your favourite Christmas song or album?

It’s hard to knock Fairytale (of New York) and Kirsty MacColl. I like them all the first time I hear them every year, and by the tenth time I hate them all.

If you could only play Michael Bublé or Mariah Carey on repeat, who would you choose?

Bublé! Bublé all day.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

I know you’re meant to say family and some people say food, but really it’s telly. Christmas telly is amazing. And I quite like those days between Christmas and New Year when you’re not sure what day of the week it is. We’re trained for this now, ever since those three lockdowns, I reckon we’ve got this on lock.

What’s the worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?

I think genuinely the worst Christmas present I’ve ever received was some kind of gadgety comb that had some sort of electrons in it, like a brush with a special electromagnetic thing for balding men to regrow their hair.

Alison Hammond Q&A

Alison Hammond holds a purple Christmas present and stands in front of a white and silver Christmas tree.

Can you tell us about the I Can See Your Voice Christmas special?

It’s a lovely show, with Christmassy songs which will put everyone in the mood for a lovely Christmas. There’s snow.

Can you tease any stand-out moment or highlights?

Christmas was my stand out moment. I’m so looking forward to Christmas anyway. I even feel like putting up my tree now! But for me the Christmas show is really, really special because there’s a really special opener and we are all involved, which everyone is going to love.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

It’s got to be a Bublé song! Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (sings)

Would you play Michael Bublé or Mariah Carey on repeat?

I’m torn! Can I play both? Both I think!

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

Family. Being with my family. Christmas dinner is a big thing. Putting the turkey in at 5am because I like to slow cook. One o’clock dinner. Chilling out. Hot mince pies with ice cream on. I just love Christmas. I wish it would snow on Christmas day though. That would be amazing. It would be nice to go sledging or something.

What’s the worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?

Jimmy has never given me a Christmas present, so that is by far the worst present I have ever received!

Any Christmas traditions/anecdotes you’re happy to share?

We always play board games so that’s a bit of a thing and a tradition we always do as a family. I always go to my sister’s on Boxing Day and I used to go to my mum’s on Christmas Eve but it’s the second Christmas without her so it’s a bit weird, and we’re just trying to find new traditions really.

Amanda Holden Q&A

Amanda Holden wears a red dress and stands in front of a purple board.

Can you tell us about the I Can See Your Voice Christmas special?

The response to series one was completely overwhelming and unexpected. So many young people I work with were glued to the show every week. I'm thrilled we are back with not only a Christmas special but also a second series next year too! It's the perfect show to watch over Christmas and there is everything in there that you'd expect. We are dressed up to the nines! We have Christmas songs. Paddy, Alison, Jimmy and I are even doing a bit of a skit. The whole show feels like the old days when the whole family sat down and watched TV and eat and drank together.

What’s your favourite Christmas song or album?

I'd have to say Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, I don't think it will ever get old and as soon as you hear the first few seconds of the song, I think it makes you smile. Michael Bublé is my favourite album, I always play that around the house. Plus you can't go wrong with Now That's What I Call Christmas.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

For me it's the build up to Christmas that is so special and my favourite part. Switching on the lights. The music. Buying people presents. Hiding them! Drinks, dos, parties. And then Christmas Day is always a bit of a let down! Boxing Day I've had enough, I'm thinking ahead to the New Year.

What’s the worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?

My best presents always comes from Chris and are always in small boxes! My mum bought me a battery operated head scratcher one year because she said I had everything!  She said, what else could she get me? I said not that, I wanted socks! I donated it to the local charity shop! Another year she bought me a bird cage full of lemons! That sounds like the title of my next book!

What film do you watch every year during Christmas?

The list is endless! I always watch Polar Express. It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street. The girls and I choose a movie a night right up until Christmas and I really don't want that to change.

Leona Lewis Q&A

Leona Lewis

Without giving too much away, can you tell us about the Christmas special of I Can See Your Voice?

There are lots of standout special moments. There’s a saxophone player, there’s a flying fairy which was really fun, lots of fun banter between the judges.

What was your strategy for identifying the good singers from the bad singers?

So I thought my strategy would be to see what techniques the singers were using, the real singers, the good singers, so I was looking at mic technique and breath control, and if the vibrato looked like it matched the person who was singing. So it was quite difficult and I was pretty rubbish at it honestly! I thought I’d be way better. It was really fun, actually seeing how good they were at faking it, it was great. So I had a lot of fun on the show.

Without revealing the outcome, can you tell us a bit about your performance at the end?

It was unexpected but enjoyable.

Do you have a favourite Christmas song?

My favourite Christmas song is probably Christmas Baby Please Come Home by Darlene Love. I just love her vocals on the song and it always reminds me of Christmas because we always used to play those Motown songs. Those were our favourite records during Christmas time.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

Definitely seeing my family. I live in a different country now and so seeing everyone at Christmas, coming home, is really special for me. I love being at home for Christmas, being with everyone, playing games.

What’s the worst Christmas present you’ve ever given?

Definitely the worst one I’ve ever given - I had a Secret Santa with my friends a few years back, and I literally forgot about, it was so last minute, like 10 minutes before we all met up, I ran into the supermarket and picked up the most random thing I could.

What film do you watch every year during the Christmas period?

One film I always watch is Bridesmaids - I know it’s not a Christmas movie but it’s one of my favourite comedies, so I love to put that on at Christmas time.
