Shortlist for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2021 revealed

The BBC has revealed the shortlist for BBC Sports Personality of the Year award 2021.


Gabby Logan announced the shortlist exclusively on BBC Breakfast. Gabby, along with Gary Lineker, Alex Scott and Clare Balding will present this year’s show from dock10 Studios, Media City, Salford on Sunday, December 19, from 6.45pm live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.


The contenders are (in alphabetical order):


Tom Daley (Diving)

Tyson Fury (Boxing)

Adam Peaty (Swimming)

Emma Raducanu (Tennis)

Raheem Sterling (Football)

Dame Sarah Storey (Paralympics)

The six sportsmen and women will now go on to compete for the public vote on the night of

the live show. 


Votes can be cast by phone or online on the evening of Sunday, December 19. Details to vote for each contender will be revealed during the programme.


In addition to the main award, there will also be other prestigious awards on the night for:


Team of the Year

Coach of the Year 

World Sport Star of the Year 

Lifetime Achievement Award 

Helen Rollason Award 

Unsung Hero Award 

Young Sports Personality of the Year

The industry panel for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year included former Olympians Jeanette Kwakye and Hannah Miley, and former Northern Ireland international and Celtic manager Neil Lennon.


They sat alongside sports broadcasters Jason Mohammad and Andy Stevenson.


Also on the 2021 panel were Telegraph sport reporter Molly McElwee, The Independent sport editor Ben Burrows and Daily Mirror sports editor Richard Morgans. Representing the BBC were Director of Sport Barbara Slater, Head of TV Sport Philip Bernie and Sports Personality of the Year Creative Director Gabby Cook.
