We want BBC Sounds to be available wherever and whenever people want to listen, and this is another way to make sure people can enjoy our audio however they choose."
— Jonathan Wall, Controller, BBC Sounds
Listeners with Sonos speakers in the UK will now be able to discover and enjoy BBC radio, music mixes and podcasts, using the Sonos app for smartphones and tablets.
BBC Sounds already has an average weekly audience of 3.6 million across
mobile, TV, website and voice-activated devices, and this will make listening even easier. Being available on this platform is yet another way to get live and on-demand radio from the BBC’s national and local stations, music mixes curated by experts, artists and special guests, and a wide range of award-winning podcasts.Just like the BBC Sounds web, TV and mobile apps, this experience lets listeners browse by categories like True Crime, Feel Good Tunes and Life Stories, find the latest shows, podcasts and mixes they’ve subscribed to on BBC Sounds, and get recommendations based on previous listening when signed into their BBC account. It also lets people pick up where they left off with the Continue Listening feature and they can see what track they’re currently listening to live.
Jonathan Wall, Controller of BBC Sounds, says: “We want BBC Sounds to be available wherever and whenever people want to listen, and this is another way to make sure people can enjoy our audio however they choose. From firm favourites to new discoveries, we’re giving our listeners even easier access to our brilliant selection of radio, music mixes and podcasts.”
BBC Sounds is available to preview in the Sonos app now and will be officially released over the coming weeks for listeners in the UK.
