Purpose of the Session
The youth unemployment rate in the region is 23%, compared to a 14% global average. Youth unemployment is often considered to be a driver of instability and fragility in the region.
The Sub-Committee will frame its questioning around an ICAI review into UK aid programming work on unemployment in the region. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office does not have any programmes specifically aimed at addressing youth unemployment in the region; it does, however, have programmes which are aimed at promoting economic stability and growth, which cover youth employment.
